Vann Hatley

Vann Levi Hatley, 84, of 25 Liske Ave., Concord, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the W.G. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, January 15 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 16 at West Concord Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Cabarrus County Veterans’ Honor Guard.

Mr. Hatley was born June 1, 1925 in Cabarrus County to the late Levi Hatley and the late Frances Dorton Hatley. He was a retired Merchant Marine and had a degree in engineering. He was a member of the Baptist faith. He was also a member of DAV Chapter 27 and the American Legion Post 51.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dean Winecoff Hatley and sisters, Gertrude Beck, Beulah Rogers, Billie Kinler, Tessie Mauldin, Earle Ganas, and Ruby Demallie.

Survivors include three step-daughters, Trudy J. Stikeleather, of Concord, Tully Ellsberg, of Hawaii, and Treda Quinn, of Georgia; sister, Katherine Ledbetter, of Concord; and numerous nieces and nephews including his special caregivers, Gayle Rinehardt and Phyllis Jordan, his nieces.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice organization of the donor’s choice.
