Vernie Carriker

Vernie Elizabeth Greene Carriker, 83 years of age, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at her home in Indian Trail, NC. Mrs. Carriker was born December 1, 1928, in Union County to the late Philas Ray Greene and Mamie Ophelia Furr Greene. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m., Friday, February 24, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 25, with a 30 minute state before the service, at Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church of Monroe. Rev. Chris Baucom and Rev. Darren Adams will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at her home. Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Sandy Blair Carriker, of the home; her sons, Reggie Carriker and his wife, Pam, of Monroe, and Tim Carriker and his wife Kristy, of Indian Trail; her daughter, Terry Crook and her husband, Mike, of Monroe; grandchildren, Kylen Carriker and his wife, Delia, Cortni Schenker and her husband, Chris, Will Crook, Blair Crook, Morgan Carriker and Kenton Carriker; great-grandson, Kelyn; sisters, Mildred Williams of Monroe and Nel Honeycutt of Florida; and her sister-in-law, Colon Tucker, of Monroe. Mrs. Carriker’s love for her Heavenly Father was demonstrated through her abiding love for her family, church, and community, and the joy she received through her flowers and gardening. Her family would like to thank the offices of Dr. Gregory Brouse and Dr. Roy Blank for their kindness and care during the caretaking of Mrs. Carriker.
