Vernon Underwood

Vernon Collie Underwood, 92 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, August 17, 2017 at his home.

Vernon was born April 27, 1925 in Stanly County, North Carolina to the late William Collie Underwood and Pearl Janette Harwood Underwood.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Greene Underwood and a brother, Marvin Underwood. Vernon served in the United States Army Air Corp in the South Pacific, during World War II.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St Martin Lutheran Church Efird Parlor. The funeral service will follow in the church sanctuary at 11:00 am officiated by Rev. John Petry. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his son, Don Underwood and wife Joan of Albemarle;daughter Susan Brooks and husband Danny of Stanfield;sister Lorene Scott of Albemarle; grandsons, Ben Underwood and wife Lauren of Locust, John Underwood and wife Kristen of Oakboro, Tim Brooks and wife Anna of Concord, Elliot Brooks and wife Kellyn of New London; nine great-grandchildren.
