Victor Malagisi

September 6, 1951 — June 10, 2016

Vic, cherished husband, father and grandfather, died June 10, 2016 while in the comfort of his home, with his wife of 33 years by his side, holding his hand as he made the transition to his permanent home in heaven. Welcoming him on the other side were his parents, Anthony “Tony” and Pieternella “Nellie” Malagisi, sister-in-law Betty Malagisi and his beloved dog, Belle.

The story began in September 1951, in Little Falls, NY, when Tony and Nellie Malagisi, welcomed Vic into the world. Vic and his older brother, Anthony “Tony” Malagisi, had the privilege to grow up in the historic Village of Palatine Bridge, NY, surrounded by beautiful rivers and mountains.

Following his graduation from Canajoharie High School in 1969, Vic served in the Army Reserves for seven years while working at Beech-Nut, Inc. In July 1983, Vic married the love of his life, his soulmate and confidante, Siri (formerly Siri Cole). Vic’s loyalty to Beech-Nut continued for 40 years, until his early retirement in 2008, due to a diagnosis of early onset frontotemporal dementia. Devastated, but not destroyed, Vic and Siri remained in Palatine Bridge until 2010, when they moved to Concord, NC to be closer to family. In Concord, NC, they settled in, made their home and gained a wonderful support group of friends who stood by their side as Vic fought a valiant fight.

But this is not the end. It is the beginning of a new chapter.

Through his undying dedication to his family, Vic leaves us with a priceless legacy of countless treasured memories, funny stories and family traditions. In addition to being a devoted family man, Vic is remembered for his love for camping, hunting and ATV riding, Freihofer’s chocolate chip cookies, giving his black lab (Belle) plenty of belly rubs, fly fishing, baseball (Go Yankees!), Fort Plain Bakery donuts, striking up long conversations with random strangers, tying flies when he wasn’t fly fishing, the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains and the serenity of Piseco Lake. Not necessarily in that order.

Adoring fans left behind to carry the torch include his wife, Siri Malagisi; three children - Jason (Debbie) Malagisi, Sonya (Todd) Smith and Mindy Zubal; eight grandchildren - Kristen, Brook, Nick, Justin, Izzy, Bradley, Dylan and Chance; his brother, Anthony Malagisi; numerous nieces and nephews.

At Vic’s request, there will be a “Celebration of Life” gathering at a later date. For those who wish to honor his memory, please consider a donation to one of the following organizations: Alzheimer’s Association Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209; Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204; Greater Charlotte SPCA, P.O. Box 77491, Charlotte, NC 28271. Not necessarily in that order.
