Viola H. Crayton, 99, of Locust, NC, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at her home. She was born May 21, 1911, in Stanly County to the late Alias and Elmetta Hinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd D. Crayton; two sons, Vance Crayton and Keith Crayton; a grandson Randy Crayton; two daughter-in-laws, Jackie Crayton and Gladys Hathcock Crayton; one sister and six brothers. Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Thompson, of Birmingham, AL; and Peggy Smith and husband, Bobby K., of Winston Salem; one son, Jerry W. Crayton and wife Agnes of Locust; daughter-in-law Hilda Crayton of Locust; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Ruth Whitley and husband, Ernest, of Albemarle. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 4th at 2:00 pm at Mission Baptist Church, where she was a member and actively attended as long as her health permitted. Grandson-in-law, Dr. Andy Wolfe, great-grandson, Bradley Williams, Dr. Ronny Russell, and former pastor Rev. Floyd Helms, will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Building from 12-2:00 pm prior to the service. At other times the family will meet at her home.
