Virginia Sides

Virginia Matthew Smith Sides, 86 years of age, of Concord, after recent declining health for the past two weeks went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Pruitt Health Town Center, Harrisburg, NC, surrounded by her family.

Ms. Sides was born October 22, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late Theodore Franklin Smith and the late Margaret Teeter Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Clement Sides on May 23, 2005; grandson, Jason Michael Sides on August 9, 2011; as well as three brothers, Bobby, Tommy, and Lee Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. At other times the family will be gathering at 1133 Thanet Street SW, Concord, NC 28025. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 3:00 pm at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Tamara Wensil. Burial will immediately follow at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include daughter, Susan Sides Swaringen and husband, Gene of Concord; son, Ricky Sides of Kannapolis; granddaughter, Jennifer Williams and husband, Brian, of Concord; granddaughter, Kimberly Luther and husband, Jason, of Concord; granddaughter, Melissa Sides of Kannapolis; grandson, Jonathan Sides and wife, Brittany of Kannapolis; great-grandchildren, McKenzie Williams, Braylyn Edwards, Brantley Luther, Michael Sides, Brennen Sides and Ashton Sides.

Memorials may be made to Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church, 1428 Old Charlotte Road, Concord, NC 28027, the National Alzheimer's Association at www.alzfdn.org, or the Princeton's Meow Rescue, 29 Brookwood Ave. NE, Concord, NC 28025. The family would like to extend a grateful expression of gratitude to all the staff at Pruitt Health Town Center, for their loving care and kindness during her temporary rehabilitation, and especially over the past three years after becoming a permanent resident in 2013.
