Virginia Turbyfill

Virginia Dare Austin Turbyfill, 87, of Albemarle, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015 at the Brian Center in Concord.

Virginia was born May 31, 1928 in Union County to the late Henry Lee Austin and the late Bertha Faye Hartsell Austin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Plato D. Turbyfill; daughter, Libby D'Antuono; brother, Little Jack and sisters, Rachel and Rose Jean.

There will be a graveside service at 11am on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Fairview Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Jim Yow. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home of her daughter, Lu Cook.

She is survived by her daughter, Lu Cook of Albemarle; seven grandchildren, Jody Cook and wife Farrah of New London, Jaime Seals and husband Robert of New London, Justin and Jarred Cook, both of Albemarle, Chris D'Antuono and wife Liz, Ryan and Reid D'Antuono, all of Maryland; four great-grandchildren, Jaden, Bradyn, Ashlyn, and Lawson; and son-in-law, Pete D'Antuono of Maryland.

Virginia's first love was being a nurse and helping others giving tender, loving, care to all who needed it. Her nursing career as a registered nurse started in 1950 at Stanly County Hospital where she delivered many babies. She later became the director of nursing at the Lutheran Home, which is now Trinity Place. Virginia retired as the director of nursing at the Stanly County Health Department.

She was a talented singer with a beautiful voice. In her early years, she sang on the local radio. She was also a member of the Central United Methodist Church choir with many solos. Virginia became a member of the Uwharrie Players and had an outstanding performance as the Mother Abyss in the play, "The Sound of Music". Virginia also enjoyed playing bridge, piano, and making crafts. She was loved by all who knew her. The light of Virginia's life were her four great-grandchildren.
