Virginia Whitley

Virginia "Kate" Whitley, 97, of Albemarle, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle. She was born June 28, 1916 in Union County to Charles and Ada Baucom Smith who preceded her in death . She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hardy Houston Whitley in 1999, and brothers, Silas Smith, Bob Smith, and sisters, Mattie Hinson, Ola Hinson, and Alice James. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 7002 Pleasant Hill Church Road in Marshville, NC. The graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Gene Hopkins . Survivors include son, Jerry (Janice) Whitley of Albemarle; daughter, Sharon (Rick) Cox of Concord; nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to express a sincere appreciation to the staff of Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabiliation Center, 3 South at Stanly Regional Medical Center, and Hospice of Stanly County.
