Vivian Kluttz Long Russell, 93, of Midland, passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Russell was born March 8, 1918, in Union County. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Luke Alexander Russell, Jr. in 2004, her parents, and her six brothers and two sisters who fondly nicknamed their baby sister ‘Snookie’. She was the youngest daughter of George Alexander Long and Dora Mayetta Kluttz Long. Vivian was a dedicated member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Midland, a former member of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, a graduate of Union County Schools and attended Queens College before her marriage in 1939 to Luke Alexander Russell, Jr. She had also been a member of the National Postal Supervisors Auxiliary and a member and matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Vivian cherished her family and friends, was loved by all who knew her, and her sweet disposition will certainly be missed. She leaves to honor her memory a son, Luke Alexander Russell, III of Midland; daughter, Vivian Catherine Russell (David Hiden Ramsey) of Charlotte; grandchildren, Heather Harkey Drudge, Luke Taggart Russell, Kelly Bodman Willis (Scott Willis), Christopher Russell Bodman and numerous nieces and nephews. Vivian was a lady, “and a lady always knows when to leave.†The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
