Mr. Voight Howell Taylor, age 86, of Concord, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011 at Hospice Care of Cabarrus County. He was born on November 5, 1924 in Red Bank, SC to the late Voit Franklin and Sadie Atkins Taylor. Mr. Taylor served in WWII in the Army Engineers during the Occupation of Japan. He returned to Columbia, SC after his service and began his long, successful career in the retail furniture business with Kimbrell’s Furniture Company. Beginning in outside sales and collections, he was promoted to sales, then to management, first in Camden, SC, then Columbia, SC, and finally managing three Kimbrell’s stores in Charlotte. He was elected to the Kimbrell’s Board of Directors in 1960. Following his retirement in 1989, he continued to serve on Kimbrell’s Board of Directors until 2011 when he was named Board Member Emeritus. He loved the company of his family and friend, landscaping his home, and traveling. He enjoyed all types of sports, especially stock car racing, both Nascar and the local short tracks. Being an IPTAY member for over 40 years, he was an avid fan of Clemson University. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord, on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services for this long time Concord resident will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at Hartsell Funeral Home chapel on at 2:00 PM with Dr. Bradley Price officiating. Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Park, Kannapolis with Military Honors performed by Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Shirley Love Taylor, of the home; son, Ted Howell Taylor (Alice), of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Jo Ann Taylor Brunson (Frank), of Columbia, SC; sister, Vera Taylor Snelgrove (James), of Lexington, SC; brother, D. Nelson Taylor (Carole), of Gilbert, SC; grandsons, Christopher Howell Taylor (Ansley), of Los Angeles, CA and George Kevin Taylor (Shawne), of Atlanta, GA; granddaughters, McKenzie Brunson Newton (Ryan), of Columbia, SC and Margaret Burnet Brunson, of Atlanta, GA; great grandchildren, Faulkner Kane Taylor and Bodhi Zen Taylor, both of Atlanta, GA, and Mary McKenzie Newton, of Columbia, SC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family especially wishes to thank Angela Love Nixon for all of her love and support that she gave during his illness. The family would also like to thank Dr. Mark Reiff, of Cabarrus Family Medicine and Dr. Garry Schwartz, of NorthEast Oncology. In lieu of flowers, Mr. Taylor’s wishes were for memorials to be made to King’s Way Baptist Church Building Fund, 7550 Ruben Linker Road, Concord, NC 28027; Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
