Vonvel William Staton, 86, of Concord, NC passed away Monday, May 27, 2019 at Atrium Health NorthEast in Concord.
Von was born July 8, 1932 in Union County, NC to the late William Henery Staton and the late Betty Baucom Staton.
He was also preceded in death by his brothers Crawford Mullis, Sr., Wayne Mullis, Folen Staton and Jim Staton; sisters Omie Furr, Cathalene Simpson, Joyce Baucom and Julie Bell Helms.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years Joyce Mae Riley Staton; son, Lynn Staton and wife Tanya; daughter Debra Furr; daughter Lorrie Castonguay and husband James; daughter Patty Kneeburg; daughter Kim Sharpe; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Von proudly served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1955 during the Korean War where he was a sharp shooter. He was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Von enjoyed spending his time gardening and tinkering in his shop. He would help anyone that needed a hand. Von loved to go camping at the lake, water skiing and riding dirt bikes. He will be truly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Friday, May 31, 2019 at New Hope Worship Center. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at New Hope Worship Center in Concord officiated by Pastor Dale Jenkins. Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Kannapolis.
