W. Hensley

W. C. "Wayne" Hensley, 92, of Huntersville, NC, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at CMC Northeast, Concord, NC. He was born in Lynchburg, VA, on December 4, 1916, to the late Robert Lee Hensley and Berta Lee Vest Hensley. He was also preceded in death by his son, John Wayne Hensley. He was a self-employed carpenter, and a veteran of the US Army. Wayne formerly raced motorcycles in North and South Carolina. He was known as "Pop Hensley's". People would gather on his farm to watch motorcycles race. He was also an avid musician, he enjoyed playing string instruments for the community and at family gatherings. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, from 12:30 until 1:30 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, Concord, with Rev. Chuck Hensley officiating. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. Survivors include wife, Glenna Tucker Hensley of Huntersville; son, Dwayne Hensley of Huntersville; daughters, Frances Yow of Kannapolis and Shirley Cantrell of Anderson, SC; ten grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; and sister, Irene Caldwell of Rock Hill, SC.
