Wadene Poplin

Wadene Howell Poplin, 88 years of age, formerly of Oakboro, passed away Friday, June 10, 2016 at Kerner Ridge Assisted Living in Kernersville. She was born August 7, 1927 as Olga Wadene Howell to Artus E. and Nezzie Howell in Oakboro, NC and was one of six children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Claude A. Poplin, Jr.; an infant sister; brother, Wallace Howell; and a great grandson, Jarrod Allende.

Wadene had one daughter, Marsha Poplin Meroney (John) of Kernersville, NC; two granddaughters, Lynne Alas (Lorenzo) of Kernersville, NC and Dana Cooper (Paul) of Ooltewah, TN; six great grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil Howell (Loraine) of Concord, NC and Leonard Howell (Kay) of Locust, NC; sister, Barbara Loftin (Johnny) of Arden, NC; and a sister-in-law, Dolores Howell of Concord, NC. She has numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved.

Wadene had a long career with Wiscassett Mills in Albemarle, NC. She was a lifelong member of Oakboro First Baptist Church, until she moved to Kernersville six years ago to be near her daughter. Being born and raised in Oakboro, she had many faithful friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 1pm until 3pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle, 522 N. Second St., Albemarle. The funeral will follow at 3pm in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Pastor Terrell Watts, Oakboro First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Oakboro Cemetery.
