Walter Lane McColl died May 15, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia of respiratory failure. He was a resident of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, but had lived in Atlanta, Georgia after suffering a stroke. He was born March 9, 1926 in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late Anie Reeves McColl and the late Walter Lane McColl Senior. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Curphey and Betty McDow. Mr. McColl served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corps. He attended the University of North Carolina where he was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. Mr. McColl started his sales career in Washington, D.C. working for Sherwin Williams. He then joined National Gypsum Company in Buffalo, New York where he rose to the head of the paint division. He then started working at Lowe’s Home Improvement Company in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. He was responsible for various products and ended his career with Lowe’s as Merchandising Manager for paints and stains. He is survived by a daughter Linda Montreuil , son-in-law Leo Montreuil, one son Walter Lane McColl III, daughter-in-law Courtney Penner McColl, one granddaughter Caroline Elizabeth Montreuil, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, on Friday, May 18, 2012, from 11:00 am until 11:45 am. A graveside service will follow at Fairview Memorial Park at 12:00 pm. Rev. Ron Honeycutt will officiate. Mr. McColl belonged to First United Methodist Church, BPOE North Wilkesboro, and Oakwoods Country Club. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of North Wilkesboro at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 19, 2012. Flowers may be given or donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church.
