Walter Gaines Plyler, Jr., 85, of Concord, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, at his residence.
Affectionately known as "Dub" to his friends and family, he was born August 4, 1939, in Waxhaw, North Carolina, to the late Walter Gaines Plyler Sr. and the late Mary Ruth Plyler.
Dub was also preceded in death by his sisters, Peggy Jean Richards, and Shirley Betenbaugh; and brothers, John Wesley Plyler, and Ronnie Plyler.
Dub retired as a truck driver from Krispy Kreme after 30 years of service. He spent so much of his time reading. His passion for his Bible & devotion books were among his favorites. He also loved going to antique shops, looking for books. He was always attending a men’s bible group somewhere & dearly loved his brothers in Christ & his church families. His main comment was always: What or can I pray for you?
His love for Jesus was evident in every way he lived his life. He served & loved working for the food ministry at Multiply Church in Concord for many years. He was a member of Grace Community Church in Concord. Dub had numerous friendships, which included his two lifelong friends: Pastor Mike Lawing and Rick Parham. His contagious smile will be missed by all who loved him.
There will be a graveside service honoring Dub's life on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at 12:00 pm, located at Gethsemane Cemetery and Memorial Gardens at 1504 W. Sugar Creek Road, Charlotte, NC.
Survivors include his granddaughter, Heather Plyler; great-grandson Landon; nieces, Shirley Welch, Terry Lynn Richards, and Beverly Padgett; nephews, Perry Plyler (Robin), and Tracy Betenbaugh (Tammy).
Memorials may be made in Dub’s honor to his church, Grace Community Church in Concord, NC.
