Walter Smith

Walter Stack Smith, 78 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Bethany Woods Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle. Walter was born December 20, 1934 in Anson County to the late Richmond Elwood Smith and the late Radie Elizabeth Pope Smith. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Fredrick Smith. Walter retired from Collins and Aikman after more than 25 years. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Joe Smith will be on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 East Main Street, Albemarle. At other times, the family will gather at his home. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Gennie Smith of Albemarle; sons, Sandy L. Smith and Gerald (Angela) Smith of Albemarle; daughter, Sylvia (David) Stirewalt of New London; stepsons, Terry and Barry Harris of Oakboro; brother, Billy Smith of Albemarle; and sisters, Lily Stoker of Albemarle and Betty Garner of Denton; grandchildren, Dale, Sandy Jr. and Santanna Smith, Andy, Aaron and Anita Stirewalt, Ashley Mason and Amanda Laton; and twelve great grandchildren.
