Biography


Wayne Brown Efird, Sr., 80 years of age, of Locust, went to be with the Lord Thursday, August 6, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Efird was born October 22, 1934 in Stanly County to the late Simeon Jason Efird and the late Sara Ella Burris Efird. He was also preceded in death by six of his brothers and sisters.

A celebration of life service will be at 3pm on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Locust United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Denny Gray. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Mildred Brooks Efird of the home; son, Wayne B. Efird, Jr. and wife Trena of Stanfield; daughter, Deborah Davis of Locust; three grandchildren, Brandon Davis, Jason Efird, and Lora Horn; three great-grandchildren; sister, Aileen Huskey of Charlotte; brother, Eugene Efird and wife Jewel of Stanfield.

Wayne was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. Wayne was a devoted member of Locust United Methodist Church. He loved God and was very active in his church. He previously enjoyed serving the Lord in positions including choir director, lay leader, superintendent, and Sunday school teacher, among many others throughout his life.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Stanly and the Uwharrie for all of their compassionate care of Wayne.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Locust United Methodist Church, 125 Fairview St., Locust, NC 28097.
