William Ayers

At 0225 AM on Sunday, December 30, 2018 our beloved son, brother, husband, dad, grandfather, uncle and cousin passed away at the age of 75 at Atrium North East Hospital in Concord, NC of complications during emergency heart surgery.

He was born on Saturday, March 20, 1943 in Elmira, NY to Miles E. Ayers and Marjorie E. (Burdick) Ayers. In 1962 he married his wife of 56 years Joan S. (Lyon) Ayers. Together they raised their four kids - Julie A. (Ayers) Mortenson - 55, William (Billy) E. Ayers II - 54, John E Ayers - 51, and Wendy L. Ayers- 35.

Bill, as he was known to just about everyone, worked for 30 years driving truck for Gerdau Ameristeel. He has a multi million miles driving safety record.

He will be greatly missed and is survived by his dad - Miles E. Ayers, brother - Daniel A. Ayers, uncle - Don Burdick, wife -  Joan S. (Lyon) Ayers, his four previously mentioned children and their spouses, numerous grand children and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his mom -  Marjorie E (Burdick) Ayers, brothers - Tom, Jim, Paul and David and sister Marjorie J., nephew - Bruce Ayers, niece - Denice (Bowen) Vaughn and grand daughter - Alicia J. Mortenson.

His body is being cremated by Hartsell's Funeral Home in Albemarle, NC. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Twin Harbor Ministry Center, 201 Twin Harbor Dr, Mt. Gilead, NC.  A memorial service will follow at 2 PM at Twin Harbor Ministry Center.

In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be made in Bill's name to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060.
