William Cassidy

William Cassidy was born in a military hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.  In the sixth grade, Bill and his family moved to Charlotte.  He made extra spending money shining shoes and mowing grass.  He spent his summers picking tobacco in Elerbee.  In high school he drove a school bus and was a member of R.O.T.C.  Bill had a desire to serve and protect but a medical condition kept him out of the military.

A few weeks after Bill and Brenda W. Freeman were married he discovered sparks from a passing train had set their elderly neighbors yard on fire.  Concerned her home could burn he beat the fire out and never told her his glasses were melted.

Bill spent the next twenty three years working as a metal pourer for Conbraco Industries in Matthews where he received several awards.  Bill loved to share his fishing adventures with his son Joe, nephews, Sam & David and grandson James.  Trying to tame three acres of rolling hill helped to satisfy his passion for the frontier life.  But the one thing that he cherished most was time spent in church with his family.

When a spinal cord injury left him a quadriplegic, he had to choose to spend the rest of his life in a pity party or have a closer walk with Jesus.  He learned to cast his cares on the Lord and soon became a mighty prayer warrior.  Most people face many problems in their life but no problem is too big for our Heavenly Father.  His promise to never leave or forsake us has certainly proved to be true in the life of William Cassidy.  His family wishes to thank everyone for their much needed prayers and many acts of kindness.

There will be a graveside service Wednesday, May 15, 2019, 10 a.m., at the Oakboro Cemetery.
