William Henry Cottrell, Jr.

William (“Bill”) Henry Cottrell, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at his home in Concord, North Carolina.

Bill was born December 13, 1944 in Kentucky to the late William Henry Cottrell Sr. and the late Anna Russell Cottrell.

Bill was also preceded in death by his brother, James Ronnie Cottrell, and his sister, Mary Lee Hunt.

Bill was happily married to Dolores Dee Cottrell for nearly 55 years.  They lived a long and beautiful life together in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky and in Concord before Bill passed away. They had two children, Eric and Neil Cottrell, both of whom live with their families in Charlotte.

Bill married Dolores Dee Breland on April 19, 1969. Bill had a strong faith and was very involved in his local churches over the years, including prayer and prison ministries. He went on two mission trips to South America to aid in the construction of new churches. Bill was also a hard worker, and worked for IBM in Lexington, Kentucky before transferring in 1982 to a new IBM plant in Charlotte, North Carolina. He retired from IBM after working there for 32 years, but continued to work at Solectron and later Lowe’s until he became ill in late 2023.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 am - 12:45 pm, Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Survivors include wife, Dolores Cottrell, son, Eric H. Cottrell and his wife, Stefanie Groot, son, Neil W. Cottrell and his wife, Cathy Wares, grandchildren Anna, Miranda, Fiona, June and Jonah, and his brother, David R. Cottrell.
