Reverend William "Bill" Faggart, 88 years of age, of New London, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 at his home.
Rev. Faggart was born September 26, 1928 in Kannapolis, North Carolina to the late W. D. and Vera P. Faggart. He is also proceeded in death by his daughter, Susan Diane Faggart; brother Melvin P. Faggart; and sister, Doris F. Gillion.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Hartsell Funeral Home, 522 N. Second Street, Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel officiated by Rev. Joe Smith. Burial will follow at the Stanly Gardens of Memory at 2001 East Main Street, Albemarle, NC.
Survivors include wife of 67 years, Dorothy Faggart of the home; and his beloved dog, Taz; nephews, Phil (Tammy) Faggart; and Whit (Beverly) Gillon.
Bill graduated from Pfeiffer College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1960; went on to Duke University to obtain his Divinity degree in 1963; and a Master's degree from Appalachian State University in 1971. He was a PFC in the United States Marine Corp for two years on the USS Shangrila in the South Pacific. Bill was in Operations Crossroads - 1946 Atomic Bomb test at Bikini Atoll.
After completing his service, Bill became a Methodist minister in 1952; a chaplain and sociology teacher at Pfeiffer College in 1969 where he remained until his retirement in 1992, having served in the Methodist ministry for 40 years.
Bill loved woodworking, musical instruments and furniture. He attended Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Misenheimer. Bill was a member of the Western North Carolina United Methodist Church Conference.
