William Gray, Sr.

William Hector Gray Sr., 84, of Kannapolis, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Bill was born June 4, 1935 in Concord to the late James and Maggie Bell Gray.  He was also preceded in death by sister, Nellie Barringer.

Bill was a lifetime member at First Church of God, where he served on the Board of Trustees, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years.  He also enjoyed being part of the 55+ Club with Atha at the church.  Bill loved the outdoors, especially fishing and camping.  He loved sports was a lifelong Tar Heels fan.  Bill was a loving husband, father, Paw Paw and brother.  He will be forever loved and greatly missed.

Survivors include wife of 64 years, Atha Lefler Gray; daughter, Angela (Rick) Gray; daughter, Pamela (Ron) Totherow; son, William (Holly) Gray, Jr.; brother, Jimmy (Betty) Gray, Sr.; sister, Frances Morris; sister, Margaret Hartman; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several niece and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. John Lindsay.  Burial will follow at West Concord Cemetery, Union Cemetery Rd, Concord.
