William Jason Hartsell, 81, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at his home in Stanfield surrounded by his family and loved ones. Mr. Hartsell was born April 26, 1931 in Stanly County to the late Theodore Andrew Hartsell and Sudie Betty Coley Hartsell. He was the oldest survivor of eight brothers and sisters. He was also preceded in death by his son, Billy Hartsell. He retired from Mecklenburg County School System Maintenance Department after 27 years working as a heavy equipment operator. He served on the Stanfield Town Council, he was a member of the Stanly County Honey Bee Association, and a member of Big Lick Baptist Church in Oakboro. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, basket weaving, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Big Lick Baptist Church, 668 Big Lick Road, Oakboro. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary officiated by Rev. Jeff Springer. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Virginia Hartsell; his son, David Andrew Hartsell, Sr., and his wife, Marlene, of Oakboro; his daughter, Elaine Allman and her husband, Dale, of Cleveland, N. C.; his grandchildren, Tonia Thorpe and her husband, Terry, Anita Stevens and her husband, Chris,, David Andrew Hartsell, Jr., Jason Hartsell and wife, Jennifer, and Justin Hartsell; and 11 great-grandchildren.
