Davidson
William Stacy Hicks, 57, of Davidson, NC, entered eternal life on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC. Stacy was born September 22, 1966 in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Elizabeth Ann Hicks and the late William Leslie Hicks. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Ann‐Charlotte Dowless Hicks, and their two daughters Tyler Belle Hicks and Sydney Laine Hicks. He is also survived by his mother Elizabeth Ann Hicks, his sister, Leslie Ann Couch and her husband, Ken Couch, his nieces and nephews Cade Couch, Gabriella Couch, Jenna Couch, and CJ Couch, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins that were special to him. He was preceded in death by his father, William Leslie Hicks.
Stacy grew up in the Mallard Creek area of Charlotte where he developed lifelong friendships and a love of all sports, but especially baseball. He attended Ranson Junior High and was a 1984 graduate of North Mecklenburg High School, where he played on teams competing against the best schools in the state. He had the most wonderful stories to tell from those years. Stacy found joy in everyday things and tradition. His buddies tell countless heartwarming stories from Stacy's youth, including riding bikes to the baseball field, seeing him drive himself to practice as a young teen, protecting a friend from a bully in the hall at school, hitting home runs, sacking the quarterback, winning basketball games, and enjoying cruising country roads a little too much(and winding up in a cow pasture).
His favorite things included making delicious banana pudding from scratch, the smell of fresh cut grass in the spring, relaxing on the deck with a good cigar, bonfires, hanging out on the beach, listening to music, and joking with friends. He loved driving his convertible and blasting rock and roll music, blowing out a few speakers along the way. He loved watching MMA and was always ready to enjoy a good pay‐for‐view event. He was a big fan of the Tennessee Vols (he learned to sing Rocky Top), the Carolina Panthers (bless their hearts), the Atlanta Braves (with friends in Atlanta at Diggers as Sid Bream slid across home plate to send the Braves to the World Series), and of course, our beloved Tarheels. It is fitting that the Heels won the very last game he watched them play this year. He loved his dogs and complained about the cats, although he was the first to bring them home a special treat.
Stacy graduated from Western Carolina University in 1988 with a B.S. in Business Administration with a Concentration in Marketing and Management. He was a member of the Zeta Xi chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, and was proud to stay connected to his Pike fraternity brothers over the years through Homecoming festivities at WCU. After college, he moved to Atlanta where he met Ann‐Charlotte. In Atlanta, he made great memories with new friends, including pool party days and card game nights at Morgan Falls Station, warm summer days in Buckhead, Dunwoody, and Sandy Springs, and getting rescued by the national guard during a north Georgia mountain snowstorm. Stacy and Ann‐Charlotte moved back to North Carolina and eventually settled in Davidson, where they raised their children.
Stacy was a natural in sales and marketing and excelled professionally, setting financial sales records and exceeding quotas individually and as a manager with Ted Parker Homes Sales, Inc., Diversified Equipment Finance, LLC, Commercial Credit Group, LLC, and ultimately as owner of Diversified Funding Solutions, LLC. He never wasted a chance to meet new people, and was truly in his element anywhere the opportunity presented itself, whether at business conferences, restaurants, sporting events, or out on the beach.
Even though all these memories tell a little bit about Stacy, the real passion of his life was his two daughters, Tyler and Sydney. He would tell anyone that would listen how proud he was of them. He cheered them on through soccer, basketball, volleyball, swim team, and school performances. He was always ready to give them advice, from how to see every occasion as an opportunity to make new friends, to providing tips on how to navigate the world as they made their way through college. Stacy saw his daughters as gifts from God and through them he learned to grow in the Lord. He talked of being grateful for a wonderful life, but was most thankful that he was given the opportunity to know Christ. He was so excited to be baptized by his daughters on Thanksgiving day last year. When his time was short, his sister Leslie asked him if there was anyone he wanted to see, and he answered without hesitation "Jesus". Stacy knew he would not live to old age, but was a natural at staying present in the moment. On numerous occasions he said that the Lord had gifted him a great life, and that we should stop worrying about him and turn our focus to others. During one of his last conversations with Ann‐Charlotte he told her it was time for him to move on, that there were many things waiting for him to do, and that he was ready to get started. Although we miss him, let's celebrate that Stacy was saved by the grace of God and was called home by our Lord and Savior. Stacy has moved on to his next adventure and there is no doubt that he is enjoying warm sunny days on the most beautiful beaches and enjoying long talks with Jesus.
