William Alexander Sherrill, III, 64 years of age, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at his home in Durham. Mr. Sherrill was born February 19, 1948, in Iredell County to the late William Alexander Sherrill, II and Margaret Winona Westmoreland Sherrill of Albemarle. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and a member of Rho chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity, Mr. Sherrill was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. After retiring from Duke Hospital Diagnostic Clinic as administrator, he owned and operated Sweet Jane’s Bakery. An avid sports fan, he was a long time referee for the Junior National Volleyball Association. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Monday, March 5, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel officiated by Rev. Fred Carpenter. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory Mausoleum in Albemarle. Military honors will be conducted by the Stanly County DAV Chapter 12. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Jason Sherrill of Durham; one sister, Dianne Hinson and her husband, Ron, of Greensboro; niece Charissa Hinson Moore and husband, Chad, and their three children, Margaret, Tucker , and Isabelle, all of Siler City; and nephew Sam Hinson and wife, Janelle, and their daughter, Kennedy, all of Wilmington.
