"> William Birch Morgan, 90 years of age, of Concord, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 in Concord.
He was born May 8, 1925 in North Carolina to the late Ples D. Morgan and Esther Morgan. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Marshall, Howard, and Ross Morgan; his sister, Elsie McCrary.
William was a veteran of the US Navy. He served aboard the LST 496, which hit a mine and sank during the Normandy Beach Invasion in June of 1944. He was awarded the Navy Marine Corp Medal for bravery. He worked at Sterchi's Furniture for 33 years, and was a member of the American Legion Post 51 in Concord.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Mildred Marie Morgan of Concord; his daughter, Karen (Franklin) Ford of Concord; his son, William Morgan, Jr. of Concord; his brother, Ken Morgan of Albemarle; his granddaughter, Angie (Trent) Stegall of Mt. Pleasant; his great-grandchildren, Cody & Madison Stegall of Mt. Pleasant.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. A graveside service will follow on Tuesday at 12:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Park, Hwy. 29N at I85, Exit 58, Kannapolis, officiated by Rev. Kevin Ford.
