William Winford Russell, 92, of Albemarle, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2016 at W.G. Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.
William was born February 15, 1924 in Stanly County to the late Jessie William Russell and the late Ollie Lee Huneycutt Russell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carol H. Russell; daughter, Sheila Dennis; grandson, Adrian Dennis; brothers, Alford, Irenus, Lloyd, and Jason Russell; sisters, Carol Russell, and Nellie Lowder.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 pm to 12:30 pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home. The graveside service will follow at 2pm at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd. At other times, the family will be gathering at his son Rodney's home, 601 Knollwood Ln., Albemarle.
He is survived by his son, Rodney Russell and wife Donna of Albemarle, NC; sisters, Pauline Carpenter, Louise Hefley, and Mary Katherine Smith, all of Albemarle, grandson, Derek Dennis and wife Lori of Albemarle; and great-grandchildren, Gage, Riley, Corbin, Caleb, Culvan, and Silas Dennis.
William honorably served his country in the United States Army and Navy during WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam War. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Spruce Pines. William enjoyed traveling and loved dancing.
