William Ward

William Bryon “Dutchie” Ward, age 84 of Badin, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Forrest Oaks Healthcare in Albemarle. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Tuesday, July 24 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The funeral service will be in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 25 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Rev. Dan Wray. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory. At other times, the family will meet at the home of his son, Dale Ward, 37 Hickory Street, Badin, NC. Born in Stanly County, NC on July 6, 1928, he was the son of the late Lonnie Bascom Ward and the late Dona Leona Lail Ward. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Frances Mildred Tucker Ward, and daughter, Dona Williams. He is survived by two sons, Edwin B. Ward and J. Dale Ward and his wife Bonnie, all of Badin; five grandchildren, Melissa Zarhloul, Bryan Foster, Lauren Wilkinson, Adrienne Smith and Derek Ward; and 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. Ward was a member of First Presbyterian Church Badin where he served as an Elder and a Deacon. He served on the Badin town council, the Badin Volunteer Fire Department and the NC Army National Guard and later the Badin Air National Guard. He retired from Alcoa after 43 years.
