William Lamar Whitley, 74, of Albemarle, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Carolinas HealthCare System Stanly in Albemarle.
Bill was born January 11, 1943 in Stanly County to the late William Pearl Whitley and the late Bertha Mae Campbell Whitley.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Joe Smith. The burial will be at Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Cemetery, 20415 Hwy. 24/27 West, Oakboro. At other times, the family will be gathering at his home.
Survivors include daughter, Cheryl Godwin and husband Don of Albemarle; son, John David Whitley and wife Brenda of Albemarle; brother, Steve Whitley and wife Gwen of Oakboro; sister, Jane Stoker of Albemarle; grandchildren, Nikki and Marshall Sides, both of Albemarle; and great-grandson, Victor Parker, III of Albemarle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bill was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He attended and graduated from New London High School in 1961. He worked as a supervisor for Wiscassett Mills for 39 years. Bill later worked for Stanly Community College as a grounds keeper and Union Power as a dispatcher for many years of dedicated service. He grew up and attended Immanuel Baptist Church. Bill loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a proud homeowner, who always kept his yard meticulous and house neat and orderly. He also loved boxing and was a car enthusiast. Bill will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
