Albemarle

Mr. William Moody “Bill” Rogers, 95, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at his home.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Albemarle at 2:00 p.m. Visitors will be received in the church fellowship hall after the service.

Born on August 18, 1926, in Albemarle, NC, Mr. Rogers was a son of the late Martin Luther and Carrie Virginia Moody Rogers. A 1944 graduate of Albemarle High School, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and the occupation of Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1947, Mr. Rogers attended North Carolina State College (NCSU), graduating in 1952 with a B.S. in Textiles.

Mr. Rogers launched his career in textiles at Dan River Mills, Danville, VA. He was employed by American & Efird Mills in 1953, working in Mount Holly, NC, for twenty years before returning to his hometown of Albemarle as General Manager of the Efird Division, a position previously held by his father and older brother, Wells. His final three years with A&E were in yarn sales. Mr. Rogers joined Winston Yarns, Inc., later Southeastern Yarn Sales, in 1979, retiring in 1991.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-seven years, Mary Anne Carter Rogers; brothers Wells, Charles Junius, Dwight, and Oron; sisters Bessie Lee Fitzgerald, Virginia Stonestreet, Geraldine Chrisco, Jewell Culp, and Betty Moser; and son-in-law, David Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Ruth Ann Rogers; daughters Carrie Wilson Currin (Jesse), Anne Lowder (Steve), and Laurie Hoots (Steve); stepson David Sutton (Finley); grandchildren Bobby Wilson (Jordan), Logan Hoots (Madeline), Will Lowder, Carter Hoots (Jordan), Matt Hoots, and Rebecca Lowder Satalino (Thomas); step-grandsons Ben Sutton (Katie) and John Sutton (Hailey); step-great-grandchildren Sam, Finley, Graham, and Sloane; and numerous nieces and nephews. His children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews agree that Bill’s life has been a remarkable example of a man dedicated to loving and caring for his entire family.

For seventy years Bill was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Albemarle, serving as a deacon, a choir member, and on various committees. As a devoted member of the Saints Sunday School class in his later years, he formed special friendships with his fellow Saints members. Bill will be remembered by all who knew him as a faithful servant of God and a true giver who had the ability to lift people up, encourage them, and bring joy to so many lives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Albemarle or Hospice of Stanly & the Uwharrie.
