William "June" Caldwell Hill, Jr. 97, went to his heavenly home Saturday, February 5, 2022. We know that his “sweetheart" of 79 years was waiting with open arms to welcome him. June was born in Cabarrus County, July 16,1924, to the late W.C. Hill Sr. and Annie Mae Canupp Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife Lora Hill, sisters Sophia Furr, Lois Shoe, Blanch Fullem, Lola Edwards, Edith Smith, Pauline Ferguson and Jenny Hill; brothers Howard Foster, Avery Hill and George Hill; grandson Jeffrey Thomas Connell and great-grandson, Zachary Alan Eubanks. He is survived by daughters Linda Mauldin and husband Doyle of China Grove, Paulette Burris and husband Randy of Concord, Joyce Connell and husband Tommy of Concord and Audrey Swayney and husband Jim of Myrtle Beach; son Mitchell Hill and wife Pam of Huntersville; sisters Janice MacLeod and Patsy Sellers; brothers Alvin Hill and Roy Hill.
June was a Private 1st Class, Company H, 351st infantry, United States Army WWII Veteran. He was awarded The Cross of Military Service by The United Daughters of Confederacy Battle of Bentonville Chapter 818 Mooresville. June retired from Cannon Mills and was the 1st president of the Cabarrus County Saddle Club. He was a dedicated member of Roberta Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir and was a member of the Men's Bible Class. June enjoyed working on his farm and raising his cows. He enjoyed gardening and was always generous and shared his vegetables with his friends and neighbors. He was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 9 great, great grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and son.
The family will receive friends at Roberta Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022, from 11:00am to 12:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at 12:00pm, officiated by Reverend Sammy D. Pierce. Burial will take place at the church cemetery with full Military Honors.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Cabarrus Family Medicine-Poplar Tent and Dr. Mary Gentry. We appreciate the love and care they gave to our father. Memorial donations may be made to Roberta Baptist Church.
