Willie Rachel Mauney Vanderburg, age 90, of Concord, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Morningside of Concord. She was born on December 3, 1920 in Cabarrus County to the late William Franklin and Ellen Jeanette Hatley Mauney. Rachel was a life-long member of First Baptist Church, Concord and a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Rachel was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Melvin Rodger Vanderburg, Sr., of Morningside of Concord; sons, Rodger (Stacy) Vanderburg and Garry (Vicki) Vanderburg, all of Concord; daughter, Tonda (Marty) Corso, of Clifton, VA; grandchildren, Heath Corso, of Oakridge, NC, Brandon, Jason, and Alec Corso, of VA, Tres Vanderburg, of Charlotte, Emily, Ginny, and Will Vanderburg, of Concord, Dawn Lockavitch and Tonda Vanderburg, both of Concord; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Minnie Belle VonCannon, of Charlotte and Louise Linker, of Harrisburg. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at First Baptist Church, 200 Branchview Drive, SE, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Tom Anderson to officiate. Graveside will be family only. The family extends special thanks to DaVita Copperfield for the gift of precious time. She received compassionate care during her final days from the staff of Morningside of Concord and Hospice of Cabarrus County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 643, Concord, NC 28026 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
