Winifred "Peggy" Allene Lipe Blackwelder, 79, Concord passed away on Friday, August 27, 2010, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis after an extended illness. She was born on March 25, 1931, in Cabarrus County to the late Hugh and Maggie Sehorn Lipe. Peggy retired from Cannon Mills plant #6 after 39 years as secretary of the dye department. She was past president of the Concord Civitan Club and former matron of Eastern Star. She was a charter member of Broadus Baptist Church. A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Sunday, August 29 from 5 until 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Monday, August 30, 2010, at 11 am, with the Rev. Dr. Mark Ericson and the Rev. Calvin Faggart officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church Cemetery. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Ray M. Blackwelder, of the home; sisters, Geraldine Fesperman and husband Ralph of Newport News, VA, Martha Tidd and husband Tom of Concord, NC; step-children, Janet B. Calloway and husband Richard of Washington, NC, Pamela B. Barefoot and husband Rowdy of Simpsonville, SC, and Dan Blackwelder and wife Kim of Huntersville, NC; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Peggy’s name to Coltrane LIFE Center 321 Corban Avenue Concord, NC 28025 or Hospice and Palliative Care, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
