Zella Smith

Zella Latisha Smith, 99 years of age, of Concord, passed away Sunday, February 23, 2014 at her home. Zella was born August 18, 1914 in Cabarrus County to the late William Peyton Smith and the late Maggie Faggart Smith. She was also preceded in death by brother, Frank Smith; sisters, Fannie Barrier, Lavina Smith, Ann Shinn; nephew, Andrew McClellan and an infant sister. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary officiated by Pastor Carrie Bishop. The burial will be in the church cemetery. She is survived by her nephews, Larry Shinn of the home, and Tim Barrier and wife Becky; niece, Janice McClellan and husband Mike; sister, Alma Mesimer; great nieces and nephew, Jennifer Barrier, Jera Linker, Timothy Barrier, Jr., and Allison Christy; numerous other nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregiver, Ubrana Frye, Hospice team, Dora Boger and Jennifer Carroll, and special niece, Jennifer Barrier. Zella worked as a folder for the Martin Box Factory. She was a lifelong faithful member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church. She loved gardening, baking, and taking care of babies. Memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, 3600 Hwy 601 South, Concord, NC 28025 and Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane Kannapolis, NC 28081.
