Dewey Thompson

Dewey Wilbur Thompson, ”Butch”, 73, of Harrisburg, passed away Monday, May 1, 2023, at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center in Matthews.

Butch was born December 6, 1949, in North Carolina to the late Dewey Wilbur Thompson Sr. and the late Elizabeth Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Cathy of Harrisburg, NC and four children: Tammi Fain (Travis), Michael Thompson (Kari), Dewey “Tripp” Thompson (Amanda) and Jonathan Thompson. He is also survived by his three sisters, Brenda Bellew (Sydney), Elsie Holden and JoAnne Pierce (Sammy). He was preceded in death by John Thompson, Brother and Michael Thompson, Brother.

Butch, also known as PawPaw, had 12 grandchildren: TJ, Chesney, Sierra, Tucker, Wesley, Carly, Trent, Savannah, Emma, Abbey, Colton and Dalton. He loved his grandchildren immensely and was always there for them when they needed anything.

Butch was a hard worker, employed by Duke Power for 43 years. He was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather who spent his life providing for others, but God and family came first. He was a mentor, a friend, yet never wanted the glory. He loved to fish on the Outer Banks, watch racing and work in the yard and garage.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Friday, May 5, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg. The funeral service will be on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Roberta United Methodist Church at 3925 Cochran Road, Concord, officiated by Rev. Perry Hines and Rev. Sammy Pierce. Burial will follow at the Roberta United Methodist Church Cemetery.
