Lionel Nesbit "Neb" Phillips, 95, of Indian Trail, NC went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 30, 2021.

Nesbit was born June 26, 1926 in Concord, NC to the late Albert William Phillips and the late Willeen Nesbit Phillips.
He was also preceded in death by loving his wife of 65 years, Agnes Ritchie Phillips; son, Pfc. Lionel Nesbit Phillips, Jr.; brother, Dewells Phillips; brother, Calvin Phillips; brother, Fred Phillips; sister, Joyce Phillips Thomas; sister in law, Peggy Ritchie and brother in law, Clyde Ritchie.

Survivors include his daughter, Vada Phillips Lee and husband David of Indian Trail, NC; grandson, Bryan Lee, and wife Krista; grandson, Philip Lee and wife Hilary; granddaughter, Deanna Lee; great grandchildren, Wylder, Porter, Mandolyn, Henry and Millie Lee; sister, Bonta Phillips Kee and husband Jimmy; brother-in-laws, Hubert Ritchie and Harold “Butch” Thomas; sister-in-law, Deon Ritchie; as well as numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Neb was a most beloved PawPaw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a decades long member of West Concord Baptist Church , serving as a deacon, church treasurer, visitation committee, and several other roles.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Fifth Army in Italy, rising to the rank of T5/Corporal.  He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 51 in Concord.  Neb worked many years for Addressograph Multigraph in Charlotte, and in his later years worked as a security guard at Phillip Morris in Concord until he was 75 years old.  He was an avid sports fan always pulling for the NY Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, and the Carolina Tarheels.  He and his brothers, Calvin, Fred along with nephew Mike Phillips, served on the “Chain Gang” sidelines crew for Central Cabarrus High School for many years.


The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 4th at 1:00 pm at West Concord Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Mike Farley.  Burial will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors.
