On May 17th, 2023, Peggy Edmonds Welch Penninger, 86, of Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side. Peggy was born on January 5th, 1937 in Swannanoa, North Carolina.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Angela Ann Welch, stepdaughter Shelia Penninger Jones, Step-Daughter, Susan Penninger King and Step-Daughter Adele Penninger Lozito, her grandchildren Stephanie Lanier & Steven Cline, and her great-grandchildren Haley Glann, Kaden Cline, Kaleb Cline & Oliver Lanier as well as her great-great-granddaughter Norah Glann.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Hassie and Ralph Edmonds and sister Martha Bane, as well as her first husband Philip Welch and second husband, Norman Penninger.
Peggy was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family, especially Sunday supper gatherings, gardening and playing with her dogs Kate and Diana. She was married for 48 years to Phillip Welch, beside whom she will be laid to rest. She was also married to Norman Penninger for 5 years. Despite being widowed twice, she was truly blessed to have experienced two wonderful marriages. She was a secretary and switchboard operator at Mitchell Distributing Company in Charlotte, NC for most of her career. Her family will remember her for being a joy to be with, her famous mac and cheese, her encouraging words, her love of flowers and springtime, and the beach. She will be greatly missed, but her impact will last for generations to come.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends at 2:00 pm at Rocky Ridge United Methodist Church in Concord on Sunday, May 21st.
