Robert Jefferson Smith, 72, of Charlotte, passed away Monday, October 3, 2022, at Atrium Health Cabarrus, surrounded by his immediate family.
Bert was born May 5, 1950, in High Point, NC, to the late Andrew and Virginia Smith. He was also preceded in death by a brother, David Smith, and an infant sister.
Bert was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving on both the USS Sample DE 1048 and the USS Gurke. He spent most of his professional career as a truck driver with Billings Trucking Company and retired after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked a few years at Epps Trucking and Corning Inc. before officially retiring for good.
Bert loved working in the yard and doing home improvement projects. He also enjoyed photography and lounging in his swimming pool. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He made the best meatballs and peanut butter pie. Bert was patient, caring, and kind. The simple things in life brought him joy, like sitting at the kitchen table with his wife drinking coffee, and chitter-chattering about any and everything. He cherished his family and adored his wife. Most of all, Bert was a loving husband, dad, and Pop Pop.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Wanda Farabee of Charlotte; daughter, Melissa (Zach) Fox of Harrisburg; son, Rob Smith of Concord; son, John (Amy) Farabee of Alabama; daughter, Elizabeth (Trent) Wilson of Cedar Point; grandchildren, Luke and Owen Fox, Hartley and Dakotah Smith, Alyssa, McKenzie, Kaitlyn, John Jr., and Emma Farabee, and Felicity Wilson; niece, Erin Smith; nephew, Andy Smith; and cousin, Carol Brooks.

They invite family and friends to attend to remember his life and visit with one another. Please dress casually and bring your favorite photo and/or memory of Bert.
Bert will be laid to rest with his parents at Oakwood Cemetery in High Point during a private committal at a later date.
