Robert "Bob" Rourke, Jr.

We are sad to share the news of the passing of Robert U. Rourke, Jr. (Bob) of Harrisburg, NC on Monday, March 13, 2023.

Bob was born on May 9, 1945, in Worcester, MA. He graduated from Natick High School in Massachusetts and began his military career in the U.S. Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded numerous medals including a Silver Star, Bronze Stars, Purple Hearts, Meritorious Achievement, and an Army Commendation Medal. Over his 21-year career, he earned his undergrad business degree from University of Tampa and his MBA from University of Oklahoma. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1986, settled in the Charlotte, NC area and started his second career in commercial real estate. Bob earned his Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation in 1992. He was very active in his community including being a member of the Concord Rotary Club and the Knights of Columbus.

Bob was a devout Catholic, a lover of family dinners, and holidays, a military history aficionado, as well as a passionate runner (even racing renegade in the Boston Marathon).

He leaves behind his loving wife, Susan, daughters Jaig Rourke, and Judi (Michael Rubes) Rourke, and sister-in-law, Linda Johnson.

The family would like to send special thanks for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Bob at Northeast Hospital (Atrium Health Cabarrus), especially the ICU staff.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (new location) on March 23,2023 at 1 PM - 9800 Fairview Rd. Mint Hill, NC 28227.  A reception will follow at the old St. Luke’s Catholic Church (now offices and reception room) located at 13700 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227.
